CHAPTER DIRECTOR

Six more weeks of Winter!  Bah-Hum-Bug!  I guess we shouldn’t complain too much, we really haven’t had it too bad as far as winter goes.  I hope everyone has had a good start to there new year so far.

Well it’s February again and that usually means cold weather and it definitely means tax time.  Hopefully Uncle Sam will give us all some rebate checks sometime this year.  I hope ours is big enough that I can retire on it.  But I’m not holding my breathe.

This is also the time to start getting your bikes cleaned, polished, fixed, lubed, greased-up or even adding some safety chrome.  You’ll want to have your bike ready to go when spring rolls around, which will be here before you know it.

We had a couple of good dinner runs to Vincent’s Pizza and Teddy’s where we had decent turn outs to both.  Sure would like to see some more of your smiling faces show up at the runs.  We have a lot of laughs and good times.  It’s your loss!!

I was so glad to see the outcome of the Super Bowl.  It is always nice to see the underdog kick butt!  Hope to see you all at this months gathering!

P.S.  Don’t forget about your sweethearts!!!

Take Care & God Bless!!

ASSISTANT CHAPTER DIRECTORS

Hi folks, Tom and Kathy here.

It's the end of January and we are in the middle of winter. It's a little cool here, especially at night. It’s been getting down to 34 degrees. that’s pretty cool, even up north. but that's not our big concern. Miss Kathy decided to injure her right knee, so off we went to emergency room.  Well that was a waste. time was immaterial as usual. took her blood pressure and temperature twice, took an x-ray, gave her a pair of crutches, and sent her on her way.  She had an MRI which indicated a severe bone bruise (how, we don't know).  As of this article, she is doing better, but is still in pain. I on the other hand have been sick with some kind of cold for about 3-4 days, but it's going away slowly.   On a different note, we had our bike repainted due to movement in transit on our trip and also because of almost 73000 miles. stone chips and stuff.  I am meeting with a guy Friday February 1 about having clear plastic on the front of the sidecar and fender. Well that’s pretty much it for now.  Oh! before I forget. Don and Terry Rowe have a new granddaughter 7#1oz, Thursday January 31 .  Ok, we're outa here. We miss you all and may god bless.

Howdy Folks

Happy New Year. Hope all had a very Merry Christmas.  I want to thank you for getting your year end paperwork done. There were some that took it to the wire. Please don’t do this! It makes Chuck cranky. So please get your financial paperwork DONE and sent in A.S.A.P. deadline for this is January 25th. AGAIN please don’t wait until the last moment to GET IT DONE. Hard to believe it’s January already, before you know it we will be riding the Wings again. I know - some of you are still riding. Bill & George come to mind. You guys are a hardy bunch. This summer is going to be more riding for Cheryl and I. We are planning on going to Wing Ding. It has been a few years since our last Wing Ding. Had a great time then and I know we will have a super time this year. I just want you to keep in mind All Chapters and, of course, the PA Rally which you all know will be in Johnstown this year. I recommend you make reservations early since rooms are going fast.  Our wish for all is that 2008 be a great year for all GWRRA riders.

KEEP THE CHAPTER GOING

Chapter U is looking for a

            Chapter Couple,

            Chapter Educator, and

            Food Run Coordinator

The Chapter is also looking for an Assistant Director.  Ed, who has done a fine job as Assistant Director, does not have the time to devote to the position.  If you are interested in become an Assistant Director for the Chapter, please see Brian.

The Chapter is also looking for a person to oversee the Progressive Diner.  You would be responsible for lining up the members to prepare the various courses for diner, appetizers, soup, salad, main course and dessert.  We usually hold the Progressive Dinner in August, so you would have lots of time to prepare.  Also, there are quite a few names on the sign up sheet already.  If you would be interested in overseeing the Progressive Dinner, please see Brian.

If you would be interested in any of the Staff positions above, please let Brian know.

THANKS FOR THE GIFT

Maria and Steve thanked the Chapter for the gift certificate to their favorite restaurant.  Maria said that the likes the martini’s almost as good as the food.  Sounds like my kinda restaurant.

PA MOTORCYLCE INSURANCE

Steve Hill was involved in an accident not too long ago and discovered something about his motorcycle insurance.  Scott, like a lot of us, have our motorcycle insurance tied together with our car insurance.  In the commonwealth of Pennsylvania, the insurance company can deny you medical benefits if you have been in a motorcycle accident.  To be sure you are covered in the event of an emergency, contact your insurance company (not the agent) to check to see what coverage you have for medical benefits.

BIKERS AGAINST CHILD ABUSE

Ed explained that their Bikes Against Child Abuse Chapter raises money for abused children in the County.  They provide the basic necessities a child will need when first removed from an abusive situation, such as sheets, pillows, blankets, tooth brushes.  All monies collected go to the charity.

Ed and Kathy Sandsmark attended our January Gathering to inform us of upcoming events.  The next event will be a Valentine Day’s dinner at Rick’s Sports Bar & Grill on Route 22 in Export.  There will be a cover charge of $5.00, food and drink are not included.  Raffle tickets will be sold, and a 50/50 drawing held.  Katie Marie and †His Cause will perform.  We hope to see you there.

OVERNIGHT TRIP

The Chapter’s overnight trip is planned for September 12, 13 and 14 to Assateaque Island, MD.

Just minutes from Ocean City lies Assateague Island, a natural barrier island with magnificent marshlands, beautiful beaches and miles of water for endless recreational activities. The island is home to Assateague Island National Seashore, Assateague State Park and the wild horses made famous in the novel “Misty of Chincoteague.”

One of the attractions on the Island are the wild horses,  They are truly one of the unique treasures of Assateague Island. The small horses wander the beaches, roadways, campgrounds and marsh areas of the island. There are two separate herds on the 37-mile-long island separated by a fence at the Maryland-Virginia state line.

There are many activities to fill your time on the Island, including fishing, clamming, crabbing, bicycling, horseback riding, swimming and surfing.

Directions: From Ocean City, cross the Rt. 50 bridge heading west. At the third traffic light, turn left onto Rt. 611 South. Signs will direct you to Assateague Island National Seashore and the popular Barrier Island Visitor Center. It is approximately 7 miles from the Ocean City bridge.

If you would be interested in going on the Chapter’s Overnight Weekend Trip, add you name to the sign-up sheet.
